What Concerns Should I Have About Hard Water?

Can You Filter Laundry Water?
Picture this: You take a sip of water from your tap, and there it is—a distinct taste that’s hard to put your finger on. Is it a mineral flavor? Or is there a subtle bitterness? If you’ve ever wondered what hard water tastes like, you’re not alone. Many homeowners across Florida have experienced this curious sensation. Let’s explore why hard water is such a common issue for Sunshine State homeowners and what you can do to ensure your water stays soft and refreshing.
Understanding What Hard Water Is
Hard water is water that contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium. Many residential water supplies are drawn from groundwater sources like wells or springs. Groundwater comes from aquifers, which are underground water-bearing rock formations. As water flows through these formations, it encounters dissolved minerals, which can make their way into your water supply. While these minerals typically aren’t harmful, they can impact the taste, quality, and even the functionality of your water-using appliances.
Defining the Taste
So, what exactly does hard water taste like? The taste can vary from person to person and depends on the mineral content of your water. Some describe it as slightly metallic, while others notice a mineral-rich undertone. Hard water also often has a distinct smell that some compare to rotten eggs. The taste might not be overtly unpleasant, but it’s certainly distinct from the crisp and neutral taste of pure water.
If the taste of hard water isn’t to your liking, rest assured that effective solutions are available. As a trusted water softener company, Florida Energy Water & Air specializes in providing tailored solutions for homeowners across Florida. We partner with RainSoft to bring local homeowners some of the best water softeners on the market, and our water softener installation services are designed to address the taste and quality of your water, ensuring you can enjoy a refreshing and pure drinking experience.
How Do Water Softeners Work?
Water softeners are designed to remove the minerals responsible for the taste and effects of hard water. Hard water can wreak havoc on your home by causing several issues, including:
- Stubborn mineral buildup around faucets
- Plumping pipes clogged with mineral deposits
- Water spots on freshly washed dishes
- Scummy residue on bathtubs and showers
- Odd-tasting coffee, pasta, and other foods and beverages prepared with tap water
- Dry skin and hair after bathing
- Clothes that appear faded and feel stiff after washing
By eliminating calcium and magnesium ions, water softeners not only enhance the taste of your water but also extend the life of your appliances and fixtures.

From what I saw in the beginning and the end, there was a huge difference. It was a job well done. It worth my time and money. And everyone should give it a try.
Excellent company, thorough, responsive, and all around amazing!! I'm so happy with my new A/C unit, attic turbine, and solar hot water heater. It has already saved me money on my electric bill.
The experience with all aspects from the presentation to installation and inspection was great. Glenn who presented was kind, informative and extremely helpful in finding the right system for us. The installer Robinson was extremely professional with the installation did a great job and John was also great in explaining the finance and perks!! Overall 10/10
This company worked very hard to remove my very old water heater. They did an excellent job installing my new one. Very professional, and kind. Willing to answer my questions also. Thank you.
Tony, the technician/plumber from Florida Energy Water & Air, was most pleasant, knowledgeable, professional. He arrived on completed the replacement of very old water heater including nearly 100% disappearance of the "knocking noise" in less than an hour, and cleaned up the work area very nicely at the end. I highly recommend his and FEWA to anyone needing these kind of services. Thanks Tony!
My experience with the team at Florida Energy Water & Air has been very positive throughout the whole process. I purchased the water treatment and air purification systems for my new home. Jack, the sales representative, did a very impressive job making the 2-hour demo fun, engaging, and interesting. I had no idea how much time had passed until it was over because he did such a great job keeping my attention. The installation was performed by Robenson a few hours later that same day! He was very professional and did a great job with the installation. I wasn’t a big fan of drilling a hole through my garage to run the water pipe, but he made the hole as small as possible and it looks like the house was built that way. He and his partner did a great job cleaning up after themselves. Finally, John was very friendly, professional, informative, and helpful during the post-installation quality inspection. Overall, it has been a very positive experience.
Great customer service. Jean Amaro was especially helpful and took care of my issues and concerns personally. Technicians were friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend their services.
