How Hard is the Water in Tampa?

If you live in or near Tampa, Florida, then you probably deal with the various problems that hard water can cause. Just how hard is the water in the Tampa area? According to information published on the City of Tampa website, the primary source of drinking water for area residents is the Hillsborough River, a nearly 60-mile-long river that originates in the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve and empties into Hillsborough Bay in the Davis Islands neighborhood. As it is a river, this body of water can experience significant changes in volume flow throughout the year in response to meteorological changes. By and large, though, this region of the state undergoes predictable weather changes that can and do affect water hardness levels. The city estimates that the hardness of the Hillsborough River can fluctuate between 140 and 300 parts per million, depending on the time of year. Water, according to the United States Geological Survey, is considered to be “hard” at concentrations above 120 parts per million. That Tampa has hard water is abundantly clear. Practically speaking, most locals experience this firsthand when confronting household problems like hard water stains on their glasses and dishes, as well as recurring plumbing problems and premature appliance wear and tear. Though not harmful to human health, hard water can be a real nuisance that makes everyday household activities more of a challenge.

Tony, the technician/plumber from Florida Energy Water & Air, was most pleasant, knowledgeable, professional. He arrived on completed the replacement of very old water heater including nearly 100% disappearance of the "knocking noise" in less than an hour, and cleaned up the work area very nicely at the end. I highly recommend his and FEWA to anyone needing these kind of services. Thanks Tony!

My experience with the team at Florida Energy Water & Air has been very positive throughout the whole process. I purchased the water treatment and air purification systems for my new home. Jack, the sales representative, did a very impressive job making the 2-hour demo fun, engaging, and interesting. I had no idea how much time had passed until it was over because he did such a great job keeping my attention. The installation was performed by Robenson a few hours later that same day! He was very professional and did a great job with the installation. I wasn’t a big fan of drilling a hole through my garage to run the water pipe, but he made the hole as small as possible and it looks like the house was built that way. He and his partner did a great job cleaning up after themselves. Finally, John was very friendly, professional, informative, and helpful during the post-installation quality inspection. Overall, it has been a very positive experience.
